Anil Challa inaugurated the dharna in style
This post should have come a bit early, with the writer’s block I am going through and the fact that I had still get my thoughts in place to write this one; please do excuse me.
The DV act was made to destroy the Indian Family, its perfectly used for that
I was in Bangalore the previous week for the Social Causes Dharna and Blogger Meet proposed by Roshni, whose objective was to participate along with Social activists (Men’s Rights Activists) to focus on the Rights of Daughters in their own Natal Homes. Many NGOs were part of this and they also wanted to highlight false allegations against Men and In-laws. If I were to sum it up; it was a half-day’s Conference on Men’s Rights, Women’s Rights (Mother-in-laws & Daughters), Child rights and Family welfare.

No words could console the ones who were present
Some of the participating NGOs in the dharna were:
- Save Indian Family Foundation, Bangalore (and other state chapters)
- Children’s Rights Initiative for Shared Parenting, Bangalore
- All India Forgotten Women, Hyderabad
- Child’s Rights and Family Welfare, Mumbai
What was interesting to note was, most of the movements we caught up with started off as blogs or forum discussions. They eventually grew in number and more liked minded people joined in and formed more organized movements.
Anil Kumar, one of the founders of SIFF was kind enough to share the complete details including the court cases that were imposed on him earlier. Virag, the flamboyant PR Officer for SIFF himself was a victim of abuse by his in-laws and ex-wife. Just to show his “affection” for her, he even wore his marriage suit with a placard which read: MY WIFE GIFTED ME A LAW SUIT!”

Virag; with the Law Suit his wife gifted him. Uma made the suit.
Mithun, the ‘official photographer’ too had a similar story as Virag, perhaps one of the reasons why they get along so well! Kumar Jahgirdar, the ex-husband of Anil Kumble’s wife; was unceremoniously parted from his daughter. Does parental abduction resort to child abuse?
We talk about a lot of injustice that is meted upon women, and the laws are also in place to help and support them. With all the hype surrounding wife beatings, crazy in-laws I think we missed out somewhere, about protecting men. It’s crazy when you hear stuff like a wife putting a rape case on this one person on the first night; then demanding 30K extortion money to keep quiet.
One husband is committing suicide every 10 minutes
Sandip, who heads CRFW has his own story – of his in laws and ex-wife demanding maintenance money to the tune of approximately 60K a month. That is a lot of money to maintain oneself. What does she plan to do with all the money? Really!
What came up strongly Domestic Violence is not a gender issue, men and children are victims too. It could be you, it could be me.

Roshni and Savio, from SIFF were there to also throw more light about the movement. In her blog, she discusses a lot of issues pertaining to family welfare. Coming from a background of child abuse herself, she is an inspiration for many women and children. Their son, Judah a gaming enthusiast is also a child activist, who did share a few things with the crowd.
I would also like to make a special mention of Mr. Suresh Ram who heads the Chennai chapter of the movement for all the words of advice and healthy insight into the web of Section 498.
Save Indian Family Foundation, Bangalore is an NGO dedicated to promote the cause of Gender Equality and Family Harmony. We commandeer the cause of those grief stricken families who are victimized by the misuse of laws like Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code, Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, Section 125 CrPC, Child Custody laws to name a few.

Hi Vinni,
It’s indeed great to see your perspective about the protest and the movement in general.
Just wanted to inform you of a few minor correction of facts here.
1. The info given about Sandip is not really correct. I believe you might have mixed up with someone’s else’s story. So kindly either remove that reference, or may be change the name, so Sandip doesn’t feel offended.
2. With my name you can give a link to http://www.wethemen.us/.
3. At the end you may want add one more blog http://legalterror.wordpress.com/.
Thanks, once again for the nice coverage.
@mithun: Thanks for pointing them out. I’ll treat this as an errata. Fully regretted!
Thats a gr8 post vinni . the photographs have come out really well.
Still we have achieved only less then 2% of what we seek to achieve
happy international mens day
Hmm I Just read this post. Don’t know how I missed it. Is it true that one husband is committing suicide every 10 min?! And would this be because of his wife? WOW! If that number is authentic, I’m just blown away by that!
